About me and the Free-Bibestudy.Com website

Picture
_Welcome to the Free-Biblestudy.Com website. I grew up in Bellville, South Africa.  I followed in my dad's footsteps and have also become a preacher. I received my degree in Theology from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.

In my early years in ministry, I realized that many people didn't have a clear overview of the Bible and didn't always know how to apply it in their daily lives. This realization has ignited my passion for helping people to have a better understanding of the Bible.

This amazing journey has resulted in this bible study website. I started this website in February 2011 because I believe in the power of the internet but more than that, I believe in the power of God's Word.

_Theology and the Free Bible Study Website

I grew up in a Protestant house with a Reformed background. I appreciate my upbringing but I have learnt to listen to people from other traditions.

Today, I have friends who belong to various denominations. I am not driven by my theological background but rather by my love for Christ and people.

Philipp Melanchthon once said:
"In essentials, unity; in differences, liberty; in all things, charity."

That is the spirit I'd like to echo.

My Experience

I have been a minister of the Word and Sacrament since 1992 serving God and people in Durban, South Africa (11 years), Wainwright/Chauvin, Alberta (4 years). In 2007 I accepted the Call to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Since 1996, I have been equipping people with the tools that will give them the skill to better understand and apply the essentials of the Bible in their daily lives.

In addition to this website, I wrote two devotionals to complement the study material: "The Bible as your GPS", and "Hearing God's Tweet". It took me more than 11 years to complete.

The Approach

The approach of the Bible Study is very simple. It is based on three steps.

1. Understanding (Theological term is Exegesis)
You will learn the easy method of how the first readers of the Bible understood the message. This is
    covered in Lesson 4.

2. Application (Theological term is Hermeneutic)
Can this message to the first readers be applicable in our day and time? This is covered in Lesson 5.

3. Communication (Theological term is Homiletic)
You learn the skill of communicating the message in the 21st century. This is covered in Lesson 5.

Current Position

I am currently the Senior Minister at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

This journey of equipping people with the skills to understand, apply and communicate the essentials of the Bible has been a source of immense joy to me.

I believe that good theology is good counseling!

I hope you find Free-Biblestudy.com helpful, and welcome your comments and suggestions.
