Summary of the Bible study on
"A Test Drive through Ephesians 2"

_
This test drive on Ephesians 2 will give you a good feeling of what you will be able to do yourself in this Bible course.

Are you ready for the test drive? Let's go!

We will first "drive" through the first three verses of Ephesians 2. I would like you to notice all the negative things in these three verses.

Let us marked all the negative words in RED.

_WHAT A MESS!

Yes, it sounds messy. We can also summarize verses 1-3 with guilt or sin.

I agree! The Apostle Paul starts this passage with lot of negative stuff. Why will that be?

Paul wants to contrast the reality of life with another reality: The BEAUTY of GOD!

Verses 4-9 will introduce us to this beauty.

Let us mark all the words that describe the beauty of God in GREEN.

_WHAT A GOD!

Wow! This sounds way better than the first three verses. We can also summarize verses 4-9 with grace or salvation.

The first word in verse 4, "BUT" is one of Paul's favorite words. It always causes a change in contents. When you listen to people, wait for the word "but".

What follows after but, is actually what people want to tell you. So Paul wants to tell us how great God is. He emphasizes the beauty of God by contrasting it with the mess of the first three verses.

The next verse (10) takes us away from God to humans.

Let us mark everything about us in BLUE.

_WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

We can also summarize verse 10 with gratitude or service.

God wants us to do good works not to earn our salvation but because we are thankful that He has saved us in and through Jesus (verses 3-9). That is the beauty of the message of the Bible and that is the beauty that will rid us form self centeredness. We are not saved by our good works but for good works.

Ephesians 2 verses 1-10 can be summarized as follow:

_Conclusion:

By marking words and thoughts that belong together the same way, we have come to realize what message Paul wanted to convey.

Paul had the meaning and put it in a certain form or type of literature.

Through this process we have moved back to the meaning or message.

I trust you have enjoyed the test drive.

This test drive on Ephesians 2 was just to give you a foretaste of what you will be able to do yourself.
